Personally I do not think you have to do a research study to tell you how bad traditional bumpers are.  I do not have a single girlfriend that enjoyed using a traditional bumper.  Everyone I know, including myself, hated it.  What is worse, is that you spend so much time and money picking out the perfect bumper then realize once you bring your baby home that she could nestle too close to it and suffocate!  Furthermore, if you were to leave it in the crib, she will eventually step on it and use it as leverage to hoist her body over the crib.  And what about the other 12 inches of the crib? Does that not count? How many stories have I heard about heads going bump in the night? They do not bump their heads and bodies until they can attempt to sit up, at that point, the traditional bumper is too short to protect them.
With so many new cribs available on the market a lot of times the traditional crib bumpers do not fit right or you can not properly tie the strings to keep it secure.  One girlfriend tried to wash her crib bumper and it never fit the same again, she continued to tie part of it on, but left one side partially loose since it did not reach the end of the crib correctly. Talk about a danger zone! I was too afraid to wash mine and it remained unclean for two years.  Never mind the hassle of changing the crib sheet, did I seriously have to remove the bumper every time?
Beyond the safety hazards, which leave me in utter shock that these products are on the market, traditional bumpers are one of the most inane products still left on the market that remains in wide-spread use. A big problem is that new parents do not know the facts. It is up to more veteran parents to let them know, to share their experiences, to tell them the truth.
Tells us your thoughts and experiences with a traditional bumper to be entered into our Wonder Bumpers Giveaway.  The winner will receive a Safe Nursery Starter Kit, which includes 38 pack of Wonder Bumpers, crib skirt, sheet, diaper changing cover, toddler blanket and window treatments.
