Go Mama Go Designs is currently looking for a Mother who would like to share her story of Wonder Bumpers, or an incident with a traditional crib bumper that caused her to switch to Wonder Bumpers.

This is for a National on air (television) piece, so if you would like to share your story, you must be comfortable doing it on camera also.

Dr. Sears and Crib Bumpers

Monday, August 23rd, 2010

Dr. Sears says NO to crib bumper pads!
And you should too!

  • Make sure crib bumpers fit snugly around the entire perimeter of the crib and are secured by at least six ties or snaps. To prevent your baby from chewing on the ties and becoming entangled in them, trim off excess length. Remove bumpers and toys from the crib as soon as the child begins to pull himself or herself up on the crib rails, because they can be used as steps for climbing over the rail.
  • Don’t place breathing blockers in baby’s crib (or baby’s sleeping environment). These include anything that could obstruct baby’s breathing passages or collect dust (which is an irritant that can lead to stuffy little noses). Breathing hazards include: decorative pillows, fuzzy stuffed animals and toys, string-toys, tiny chokable toys, straps or ties on bumper pads.

Wonder Bumper Review by A Mom’s Take

GoMamaGo Designs – Wonder Bumpers Review

GoMamaGo Designs generously sent me a set of Wonder Bumpers to review. If you took at look at my tour my home nursery post you will have already got a sneak peak at the bumpers I’m about to show you! I have 42 slats on my crib so I choose a 38 set of Blue Bird as it is very gender neutral and would look beautiful with my nursery theme. I then choose to have 6 in Lotus sent to add a splash of green into the scheme! The bumpers are beautiful and I was really impressed with how soft and nice they look and feel. They were also really easy to put on. They attach by zipper and the hardest part is just lining up the top part where the zipper attaches and then from there it’s just pull down and flip it around to wherever you want the zipper – the side or the back of the slat depending. I have the zippers facing the back wall on all 4 sides of the crib.

Wonder Bumpers

Each bumper is reversible so you get two patterns which each bumper so you can mix and match and make a really fun look! The Blue Bird set has solid white on the back and I choose to have them mostly just white so I didn’t have an overwhelming amount of print as my nursery does have quite a bit of decor already on the walls with the characters we painted. I mostly wanted bumpers to prevent my babies legs from getting stuck through the slats as I’ve had happen often and it always leaves them in pain so I put my 22 month old in and told him to kick like crazy to see what would happen. As you can see in the picture above he was able to kick his legs out through the slat still but wasn’t able to get his legs out past his knees, and not even very far down as they are at an angle in this picture. It also didn’t leave his legs sore and red like they would typically get and he was able to pull his legs back out himself as well. My newborn probably wouldn’t be able to pull their legs out, but at least they wouldn’t be in pain! I did notice that the Blue Bird set appeared a little bit dirty on the white side and when asking about this learned this has been a little bit of an issue just because they are pure white and so they show up dirt very easy. I also had one bumper with a small hole near the bottom seam and another that was very thin and nearing becoming a hole. I also had one with the zipper that went the wrong way. When I contact customer service about the issues though they were very quick to offer replacements and sent them right out to me without any hassle. GoMamaGo Designs strives to have very high customer service and they were very easy to work with when I did notice a problem.

GoMamaGo Designs is working on a petition to get unsafe crib bumpers off the market! They are looking for help in signing the petition to get the word out to the Consumer Product Safety Commission that the bumper market needs to be examined and tested to ensure safety for our children! The MISSION Petition

Wednesday, August 18th, 2010

Many of our readers, and followers may have heard us talking about our MISSION petition, and wondering what exactly that means. Now that the blog is up and running, and doing well I wanted to talk about MISSION and the crib bumper petition we are working on.  Currently stuck with just over 50 signatures, and looking to make it to 1000 before September.

This is where we need your help!  50 names on a petition may be a good amount, but it is not going to a large consumer safety organization to push in the direction we need to be moving.

So who is MISSION?  MISSION stands for Mothers Investigating Safe Sleep Options for Newborns. Something that we clearly need in our country since there are so many crib related injuries annually. Recently the Nap Nanny was re-called because of an infant death, when the culprit of the death was suffocation on the crib bumper.  The crib bumpers were not investigated or even cited in any publications as a hazard.

What is the petition about or include?  Per the Petition website :

“We the undersigned, alongside MISSION, Mothers Investigating Safe Sleep Options for Newborns, are urgently requesting parents, physicians, medical professionals, and our local government, all who have a vital interest in the well-being of America’s children, to call to action an investigation of traditional crib bumpers. Without your help, countless parents will unknowingly put their child at risk.

By signing this petition, you will help heighten awareness, increase interest in safe sleeping environments for babies, and most importantly express that traditional bumpers are dangerous, should not be used in a child’s crib and that the Consumer Product Safety Commission should take action to investigate the deaths caused by this product.”

Testament of Wonder Bumpers from a Special Needs Mother

Monday, July 26th, 2010

We at Go Mama Go recently put out a request for stories from several areas of the country. One of those areas was the Philadelphia metro area.  We were contacted by an amazing mother willing to tell her wonder bumper story. Below is the testament of Rebecca McKerns and her daughter :

My daughter is almost 2 years old and has recently been diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy. Her condition causes her to sometimes lose her balance when sitting, and would cause her to bump her head on her hard wooden crib rails. She also has limited mobility, and will sometimes get her legs or arms caught in the rails of her crib. I had been searching for a product that would give her the safety and comfort she needed, and also the piece of mind I needed for both of us to get a good nights sleep. I had called our doctor, local hospitals, local special needs organizations, and only to be told what I had already knew about, but didnt want to risk.. using the standard crib bumper, or as one nurse told me ” just try to have someone rig something up for you, but then you risk being liable should anything happen!” Not a chance I’d like to take! I did alot of my own searching and came across your product. I believe I placed my order within 2 minutes of getting on your site! I knew right away that this was just what I had been looking.. rather desperately searching for! And as an added bonus, they were PRETTY and in Pink!! My order came within 3 days, and we couldn’t wait to try them out! They were so easy to put on and fit great! My daughter loved the feel of them (which was another plus since she is really just learning to sit and reach for things,,this gives her something nice and soft to touch!) She immediately sat up in her new beautiful crib, looked around, reached out, lost her balance, but this time.. NO BUMP noise.. NO CRYING… A wonder indeed!! Your Wonder Bumpers are heaven sent and I can’t thank you enough for coming up with such a great product! I love knowing that my daughter is safe now and that she will be in the future as we convert her to a bed, complete with Wonder Bumpers on the rails!!  I will be spreading the word about your product to anyone I know and hope to save many more noggins like my daughters!!”

We hope that with more stories like this, the public can see the amazing resource Wonder Bumpers provide, especially to special needs children.

Everyone is a Winner!

Thursday, July 15th, 2010

First thing’s first!  Hi!  I am new here!  I want to take a moment and introduce myself to all the great readers of the Go Mama Go Blog!  I am Danielle Elwood and that is me over there to the right. I will be blogging here and handling the vast majority of social media for Go Mama Go Designs now!  I am really excited to be joining the team, I love the Wonder Bumper product, and I think the awesome safety goals of Go Mama Go is something that totally hits home for me as a mother of two, and a huge advocate for safe baby products.  I will be handling the great facebook fan page for Go Mama Go, as well as their Twitter account. So if you are on facebook, or twitter, come over, say Hi and get involved in the convo!
If you just want to just say hello, I am available E-mail me at Socialmedia@gomamagodesigns.com

On to the winner of the Giveaway!
Did I mention that I am really excited that in my first post I get to announce a giveaway winner?
And the winner is Bonnie who left the comment

“For my first daughter, we used the traditional crib bumper. We never had an issue with her face being too close to it (although now, looking back on it, I think we were foolish to believe it to be safe). She did, however, attempt to use it as a climbing tool to get out of her crib once she was standing. So UNSAFE!! The second I realized that she was doing this, and could potentially fall out of her crib, and break her neck, legs, etc..we removed it, and had it repurposed into cute matching wall hangings for her room. This time around, I knew better than to put the traditional bumper in the baby’s crib. Since most bedding sets come with the bumper already, we did the same thing as last time, and had it repurposed into throw pillows for the rocking chair, and some wall hangings. I am wishing that we had something for the railings, though, since my daughter is so young, and still makes the “startle” motion with her arms and legs. She has already knocked her poor little knuckles on the wood. Wonder Bumpers seem like such an AMAZING middle ground, and I am so thrilled to see how safe they are!”

But since everyone is a winner, I will be e-mailing all of the runner up’s with a special treat in the next day!
Bonnie, you can either e-mail me your pick, and mailing address, or one of the other Go Mama Go ladies!

Congratulations on your win and I hope all of the local readers here will continue to check back on all the new neat stuff that will be going on in the next couple weeks!
